The House Always Wins

This is my final project for my Film and Media Studies degree, based on the detective radio dramas of the 1950s. Everything was written, recorded, and edited by me. I also composed and recorded all of the music. Voice acting was done by myself and various actors from my school.

David Lange Studios Recording

This is a recording of my jazz quartet produced by David Lange Studios. This tune was written by our drummer, then we all colaboraed  and arranged the piece together. In the jazz tradition, it is common to write a tune and then have it be up to the entire band of how the music will come out and be arranged. I gig with Rainier Quartet professionally in the local jazz scene of the PNW in the Tacoma, Olympia, and Seattle area.

History of Tech

This is a soundscape that I made for the podcast, “Innovative History”. A show that covers a wide range of studies in innovation through a historical framework. The creator of the podcast wanted ambient music under certain sections of the show where the music was representative of the episodes topic.

For the episode “Museums”, I wanted to make something that had the same acoustics and sonic environment that large museums have, but also tranquil musical motifs that ground the listener. One example in this piece is the motif of the piano, where every other time in the piece this melodic motif utilizes the lydian #11 sound to help capture the sense of wonder that museums evoke in visitors.

For the episode “History of Technology”, I wanted to use the microKorg synthesizer’s arpeggiator tool to make an ambient track that sounds like early science fiction sound effects that might be used in the original Star Trek series. Using sound effects that have tonal qualities within pieces of music was an important aspect of the compositions for this podcast.
